Each simulation puts you in a different life situation. You start by being introduced to your character and their current situation. There is also a status panel which always displays current information about your character. You then play the game, turn by turn, by dictating your character's actions. The AI narrator will respond and narrate what happens next. Each simulation has maximum length, and at the end you'll be given a score based on how well you did.

In-game time is displayed at the top of the status panel. It shows the current date and the amount of time that has passed since the simulation started. The in-game time progresses as you make decisions and interact with the game world. Note that each simulation has a max number of turns and max number of in-game days that can pass before the game ends.

The status panel displays your character's current status, inventory, assets, skills, etc. It is always visible on the left-hand side of the story, allowing you to keep track of your progress throughout the simulation.

There are two types of turns: regular (play) and fast forward. Regular turns are short, and allow you to progress through the simulation by taking a short action (less than 1 day). Fast forward turns are longer, and allow you to pass a longer period of time (Week, Month, or Year) Fast forwarding can be useful if you want to skip ahead to a certain event, or pass time to wait for something to happen, save money, continue education or getting experience, etc.

Yes: when you press the Play button, your input will be categorized into one of 5 classes: Action, Dialogue, Question, External, or Other. The AI handles each type of turn differently. Fast forward turns are also their own class.

Good question! The spirit of the game is to have fun and enjoy yourself. But besides that, the idea is to improve your character's life situation by making good decisions. What goes against the spirit of the game is trying to gain an advantage by trying to outwit the AI to giving your character things in an unrealistic way. For example, if you try make the AI believe that you just got a million dollars and succeed, then you're taking the challenge out of the game. But ultimately, it's up to you to decide what you think is fun and what isn't.

I guess we do? We try to put systems in place to detect and prevent that from happening, but doubtless there are still ways to do it. We recommend to try to stick to the Spirit of the Game and not not cheat, it's more fun that way! If you do find effective hacks and exploits, please let us know so we can fix them.

Behind the scenes, we have two flavors of AI models: a fast one and a slow one. The fast model is used for most turns, while the slow model is used only once in a while, to summarize the recent turns for easier reference, and update the status panel.

We use the slow model after 5 - 10 turns have passed since the last time it was used, or when you press the Fast Forward button. This is why there are situations where you cannot fast forward, if not enough turns have passed since the slow model was last used.

The fast model is not as intelligent as the slow model. It is designed to be fast and efficient, but it is not as good at summarizing the story and updating the status panel. The slow model is more intelligent, but it takes longer to process your input.

You can't really know, unless you pressed the Fast Forward button. But by looking at the pace of the loading bar, you can get a sense of which model is being used.
